Jesper Zeuthen Trio Live is a continuation of the process that began with the formation of Jesper Zeuthen Trio and the recording of its debut album, simply called Jesper Zeuthen Trio, released in 2010.

As with the first CD, Live is a no-nonsense product both in musical content, title and cover art (by Zeuthen himself).

Live presents a trio that has matured through intense rehearsals and numerous concerts in Denmark and Germany, up to the point where the group’s repertoire of around 30 Zeuthen tunes has been internalized into the DNA of the three musicians, making the compositions a framework for extended and unpredictable improvisation.

When choosing the location for recording the CD, Jesper Zeuthen picked Literaturhaus – a former church close to his home in Copenhagen, situated in an area offering as much cultural and national diversity as that of his own music. The room has plenty of reverb that embraces the trio’s ambition to play with no amplification at all, giving the three musicians the spatial freedom to integrate each instrument into the fabric of the music.

Live documents a milestone on the unending path of musical process that Jesper Zeuthen and his trio travels and points forward to new explorations yet to be documented. Stay tuned.

Kevin Brow releases 14 duo tracks on Blackout Music October 23rd 2011. The CD entitled ‘Dolls & Guns’ features Marc Ducret(fr), Tim Berne (us), Jacob Sacks (us), Eivind Opsvik (no), Lotte Anker (dk), Kasper Tranberg (dk), Jacob Anderskov (dk), Mikkel Ploug (dk), Sissel Vera Pettersen (no), Rob Mosher (can), Dan Weiss (us), Claus Myrup (dk) og Toke Møldrup (dk).
“Time and space have shaped the life of Kevin Brow. The Canadian-born drummer moved to Toronto when he was 19, and went on to play with some of the best jazz musicians including Mike Murley, Pat LaBarbera and David Braid. Six years later he moved to Copenhagen. This was significant in more ways than one: he was trading the environment of mainstream jazz for a freer atmosphere”

“Copenhagen provided an opportunity for Brow to form his own groups and also to play with other bands. His bands proved to be fertile ground into which he sowed the imagination of his musical vision”

“Brow has a limber approach to composition, letting the melody take wing on the imagination of his musicians, who are articulate enough to forge new contours without trespassing on the boundaries of good sense” - Jerry D’Souza, all about jazz new york, 2011

Drawing on inspiration from legendary Link Ray & Dick Dale, mixed with class acts like Pixies, Bob Hund & Sonic Youth – and with a profound love for the garage scene, El Ray is more than music, it’s deadly fun. ‘Chasing Ray’ is the band’s tribute to former bas player extraordinaire, “El Kid’o”, who died tragically of cancer at the age of 27. With new bass player La Chiquilla in place, El Ray is once again ready to get in character and play bikinis and trunks of every cool cat in town. Ink or no ink, you’re all welcome at El Ray’s surf party and as the band says: ‘As long as you’re into surfing the genre with a twist and more than ready to venture into the night, you’re a Ray’.

New album released August 30th 2010 – Surfs up!

Two mighty forces in Danish jazz, trumpet player Kasper Tranberg and drummer Kresten Osgood, are releasing a totally fresh, new album July 2009, featuring the legendary multi-instrumentalist Yusef Lateef.

Yusef Lateef is unique in the history of jazz. He had his recording debut in 1949 on a session
with Dizzy Gillespie and has gone on to play with many of the heaviest innovators in jazz – like
Count Basie, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Cannonball Adderley, Joe Zawinul and Art Blakey,
to name a few. Yet Lateef is an important innovator himself. He is recognized as one of the best
improvisers on the flute, while his saxophone playing is deeply original and respected throughout
the world. Today Yusef Lateef is 89 years old and playing with unabated strength and creativity,
although – due to his exclusiveness – he has not recorded since the year 2000!

Tranberg and Osgood, however, have succeeded where all others have failed – by awakening
Yusef’s interest in recording by posing a musical challenge. Thus the musical point of departure
for this record is the relation between the sound of wood, skin and metal – a form of
instrumentation as old as mankind. It is in the meeting between these primeval sounds that wind
players Lateef and Tranberg on the one side and percussionists Osgood and Rudolph on the
other attempt to create a timeless sound that portrays both Man’s natural limitations as well as
the notion that music is a supernatural entity which enables us human beings to rise above our
inbred inhibitions. All four musicians have composed new material for the recording. The album is coming out on
Blackout Music – a completely extraordinary record release in Danish jazz.
